Circular on Seeding/Correcting Aadhaar in UAN in EPF

Subject: Important Update: EPFO Circular on Seeding/Correcting Aadhaar in UAN

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), vide Circular No. WSU/MemberProfile/E-710137/2025-26/26, has issued an important notification regarding the seeding and correction of Aadhaar in the Universal Account Number (UAN). This aims to streamline the process for EPF members who are facing challenges due to Aadhaar mismatches or incorrect linkages.

Key Services Enabled Through This Circular:

1. Aadhaar KYC Seeding & Correction

To assist members who have not yet seeded or verified their Aadhaar with UAN—or need to make corrections—the Joint Declaration (JD) functionality has now been simplified.

a) Mismatch in Name, Gender, or Date of Birth

If there is a discrepancy between Aadhaar and UAN records in any of these fields (Name, Gender, or Date of Birth), the employer can submit a correction request through the Joint Declaration (JD) online functionality.

b) Correction of Incorrectly Linked Aadhaar

In cases where an incorrect Aadhaar number has been erroneously linked with a UAN, the employer can now enter the correct Aadhaar via the online JD functionality and forward the request to the concerned Regional Office (RO) for approval.

c) In Absence of Employer / Closed Establishment

If the employer is not available or the establishment has been closed, the member can still update their Aadhaar details by submitting a physical Joint Declaration.

  • The declaration must be in the format provided in the circular.
  • It should be duly attested by one of the authorities authorized to certify EPF claims (as listed in the circular).
  • The member must then submit it at the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Counter at their concerned Regional Office.

Why This Matters to EPF Members:

This updated process will be especially beneficial for:

  • Members unable to access their UAN due to Aadhaar mismatch.
  • Members with incomplete or inaccurate basic details in their UAN as compared to Aadhaar.
  • Former employees of closed establishments, who previously had no channel to request corrections.

With both online and offline options now available, EPFO has taken a significant step to make Aadhaar-related updates more accessible for all members. Please refer the notfication for more details.
