Menstrual Leave Policy, 2025
(Applicable only within the State of Karnataka)
The Cabinet of the Government of Karnataka has approved the implementation of the “Menstrual Leave Policy, 2025”, providing one day of paid leave per month to women employees across all sectors, including Government Departments, Garment Industries, MNCs, IT/ITES, and other private establishments. This is in accordance with Government Order CC 466/2023, issued from Bengaluru on 12/11/2025.
All concerned employers have to extend 12 days of paid menstrual leave per annum to all permanent, contract, and outsourced female employees between the ages of 18 to 52 years, employed in establishments registered under the following enactments:
- The Factories Act, 1948
- The Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1961
- The Garden Workers Act, 1951
- The Beedi and Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act, 1966
- The Motor Transport Workers Act, 1961
This provision has been introduced with the intent of promoting women’s health, enhancing efficiency and productivity, and supporting their overall mental and physical well-being.
Conditions
- Monthly Utilization: The menstrual leave allotted for a particular month must be availed within the same month. Carry-forward or accumulation of unused menstrual leave to subsequent months is not permitted.
- No Medical Certificate Required: Female employees are not required to submit any medical certificate to avail one day of menstrual leave each month.
